This
show was devised as part of a project that was privately sponsored
in the spring of 2003 and saw the beginning of Alexander and James’
collaboration. The programme centres mainly on operas by Rossini,
Gounod and Donizetti, containing solo arias and duets from Il
Barbiere di Siviglia, Roméo et Juliette and L’Elisir
d’Amore. It is performed in original language (i.e.
Italian and French) although an accompanying programme summarizing
the story and theme of each item can be distributed to the audience.
In this case, although the items are linked and presented in a
certain order, there is no overall, unifying story. Instead this
programme presents three or four “episodes” which
are nevertheless linked and flow one into the other, despite coming
from entirely different operas! There is even an extract from
Shakespeare!
